The Journey
Varian Ford Jr., (b. Miami, FL 1987) began making art at the age of 5. He exhibits his drawings and paintings in galleries and on social media platforms, capturing the attention of a wide public. He is known for his sports collection (Spirit Of The Game), for which he collaborates with professional athletes and large sports broadcast networks such as NBC Sports.
The story of his artistic evolution began in the quiet corners of libraries, where the weight of global literature first met the fluidity of watercolors and prisma pencils. He has spent decades exploring the delicate intersection between the written word and visual expression, seeking to translate complex narratives into evocative metaphors that resonate across cultures and eras.
His creative process is a continuous dialogue with the unfolding within. By grounding his work in love, he aims to create pieces that serve as a bridge between historical depth and contemporary vision. Every stroke of the brush is a calculated response to his environment, a spiritual practice that views his artistic expression as a conduit for a larger universal creative force.
Artistic Achievements & Recognition
This watercolor painting of the Coral Gables City Hall was created and generously donated to the City of Coral Cables by Varian Ford Jr. The work captures the grandeur of the historic building, which has stood as a symbol of civic pride and architectural beauty since 1928. Set against a richly saturated blue sky, the monumental façade of the building is depicted with architectural precision--its columns, balustrades, and domed cupola carefully articulated. In front of the building stands the bronze statue of city founder George Merrick adding historical weight to the composition.
A lush green lawn occupies the foreground, where the artist has hand-lettered the phrase "The City Beautiful 100th Anniversary" in bold, expressive brushstrokes. These letters immortalize Varian's own red and white flower arrangement forming the number 100. The combination of formal detail and vibrant color lends the piece both dignity and warmth. underscoring its celebratory intent.
On the occasion of the centennial of the City celebrations, the artist shared:
"While on a mission to inspire and educate a diversity of people by creating various artistic, unique, and self-expressive artwork. Inspired by Coral Cables' [_] history, I was compelled to donate a piece of my artistic expression, showing my gratitude and respect for the City of Coral Cables."
This heartfelt tribute reflects not only the artist's creative spirit but also the deep appreciation City staff hold for the community they help shape every day.
